  • Experience leading and managing engineers.
  • A strong commitment to plan, do, check, act (PDCA) methodology.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering principles as they apply to the process.
  • The ability to develop process instructions and write reports.
  • Experience in union environments.
  • Project management skills.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Analytical and synthetic ability to evaluate complex situations, allowing for rational decision-making based on objective facts.
  • Self-initiative, intellectual curiosity, creativity and innovation.
  • Verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills in English.
  • Experience with Six Sigma / Lean manufacturing is preferred.

You will lead, coach and supervise a team of process and capital project engineers to implement continuous improvement and capital projects to support new business and existing operations. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing plant specific technology improvement plans through leadership and management of the site engineer group.
  • Driving change through implementation of focused CI projects and capital investment to higher levels of performance in safety, quality, operations, cost and growth.
  • Leading coordination of overall plant capital investment plan and ensuring implementation on site.
  • Promoting the use of lean and engineering methodologies, root cause corrective action and waste reduction tools where appropriate with a bias for action in the engineering group supervised.
  • Interfacing with various functions of the organization, including and beyond the site level.
  • Defining and setting the short term and long-term strategy for engineering efforts and continuous improvement activities.
Here is a sampling of more specific responsibilities:
  • Identifying or creating opportunities to improve plant safety, quality and maximization of the value from existing assets.
  • Contributing to plant-specific technology improvement plans, including participating in the definition and development of plans, and assuming accountability for plan implementation.
  • Proposing medium to long range improvement plan for the facilities to support budget assumptions.
  • Working with site leaders to define priority in the execution of improvement project according to the business needs.
  • Leading overall plant capital plans and ensuring implementation on site.
  • Serving as mentor and teacher to relevant plant personnel.

At the Owensboro, Kentucky plant, where you will work, we develop and manufacture advanced lead acid battery separators that are driving innovation in transportation and industrial applications with cars, trucks, forklifts, and golf carts as well as energy storage systems (ESS). The plant runs 24/7 with a team of more than 200 employees. Production operations are split into three primary areas including mixing/extrusion, extraction, and finishing.
