Reporting to the Plant Manager, as Production Manager, you will be responsible for ten direct reports, including three production engineers, five supervisors, one production specialist, and one administrative assistant, and a team of approximately 100 union personnel. You will manage production, running plant operations and ensuring job expectations are met and enforced in order to facilitate environmental, safety and quality management systems. You will be a visible presence on the floor, spending 50%-75% of your time there, holding people accountable, driving improvements, setting priorities, and more.
Your primary responsibilities will fall into two main areas. 1)
Safety and our ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS), you will:
- Drive the importance of conformance with the environmental policy, relevant procedures and the requirements of the EMS.
- Drive the environmental impacts associated with your work activities and the environmental benefits of improved personal performance.
- Drive conformance with the environmental policy, relevant procedures, and the requirements of the EMS, including preparedness and response.
- Manage the potential consequences of deviation from specified operating procedures.
- Recognize that adhering to job responsibilities and procedures regarding environmental, health and safety is a condition of employment.
- Comply with all environmental, safety, and health rules, policies, and programs established by the company to the extent of training received.

Quality, you will provide customers with products and services that meet or exceed their expectations. You'll achieve this through the continuous improvement of processes at all levels of the organization.
In addition, our expectations of you will include:
- Responsibility for the personal safety of all production personnel.
- Ensuring that all employees follow EHS protocols.
- Operating facilities in compliance with all environmental permits, environmental management systems and defined standards.
- Meeting production plans for overall production as well as detailed schedules for specific grades.
- Ensuring the disciplined operation of all equipment and processes consistent with standard operating procedures and standard operating conditions.
- Championing and leading lean strategies and processes.
- Managing the process for control and variability reduction to achieve consistent product quality relative to specifications and targeted customer requirements.
- Leading continuous improvement in all aspects of production results - clear assessment and communication of prioritized opportunities for improvement in safety, environmental performance, cost reduction, capacity development, reliability and quality.
- Promoting active involvement of all production personnel in the performance, control and improvement in the manufacturing process.
- Training, developing, assessing and coaching employees. You'll ensure some validated method of assuring that operators and supervisors are qualified and achieve an acceptable level of competence.
- Creating an environment in the production unit of trust, fairness, respect, effective two-way communication and accountability for results.
- Working effectively with other functions such as planning and scheduling, shipping, procurement, maintenance, engineering, human resources and others to optimize production operations.
- Developing and using key performance indicators for production to measure, assess and communicate manufacturing performance.
- Ensuring and maintaining employee productivity, morale, and empowerment.
- Determining personnel, equipment, and production requirements to ensure the capacity needed to achieve ongoing customer requirements and corporate growth objectives.
